	Home Artists Art Antique Prints Inside YH Framing Search Contact The Yellowhouse Gallery Presents: Thomas Nast (1840-1902) Thomas Nast is best known as the political cartoonist who gave us the political party icons still in use today: the Republican elephant and the Democrat donkey. He was also the first to publish a popular illustration of Santa Claus, following the general description given in The Night Before Christmas. His illustrations of Civil War battles and soldiers were widely published during that conflict.
