The Yellowhouse Gallery Presents: Thomas Nast (1840-1902)
Thomas Nast is best known as the political cartoonist who gave us the political party icons still in use today: the Republican elephant and the Democrat donkey. He was also the first to publish a popular illustration of Santa Claus, following the general description given in The Night Before Christmas. His illustrations of Civil War battles and soldiers were widely published during that conflict. Yellowhouse Gallery offers original antique prints from all three genres: Nast's Civil War wood engravings, satirical political cartoons, and Santa.
