| | E. M. Corsa is passionate about art and nature, the combination giving birth to vivid watercolors portraying both wild and domestic animals. Her watercolors may even utilize collage work or appear on a reproduction of an antique map. She paints what she knows best, and the appeal of her work stems from a keen eye for accuracy and detail, balanced composition and a wry sense of humor. From a young age growing up in New England, Corsa has been enthralled with the natural world, stemming from her parents' love and respect of nature. This, along with an insatiable need to learn all she can about her subjects and the world around her, has led to the artist developing a recognizable style uniquely her own. Drawing is Corsa's favorite form of expression, and she believes it is a must for an artist to be able to draw well. Keeping sketch journals where daily happenings are recorded, along with ideas for future paintings, is an important part of the creative process for the artist. The majority of these sketches are done on location, producing a freshness that can rarely be duplicated in a studio setting. Working on site also gives Corsa a personal connection to the subject, by seeing and feeling its surroundings. This cannot be experienced by copying a photograph. Many of Corsa's paintings also have hidden references to personal memories and events in her life. Corsa paints first for her own pleasure, then as a way to share her love of nature. Whether talking about her humorous work of which she is best known, or her plein air landscapes of the area, the artist says, "Nothing pleases me more than to see someone smile, laugh, or study my work and maybe want to learn more about the subject. It's my way of inviting the viewer into my world to appreciate what nature offers us every day. Just open your eyes, breathe deeply, listen and enjoy the magic right outside your door." Corsa's favorite subjects include ocean life, insects, birds, and other small creatures that cross her path or make their home at the Crooked Little House. Corsa has been the recipient of numerous awards, and her paintings have produced a loyal following both in private and corporate collections, in this country and around the world. |
