Yellowhouse Gallery Interior ~ Local Art, Photographs & Beach Scenes
|
Yellowhouse Gallery features work by approximately 50 local resident artists and photographers. We also represent a
number of artists who, although they are not fulltime residents, share a deep love for the Outer Banks. Many of these
"locale" artists own second homes here, live in the region, or vacation here several times each year. While many of
our artists find their inspiration in the seashore, their expressions and chosen media vary. In our eight-room
1935 cottage, we have six rooms devoted to the contemporary collection, much of it produced locally. We offer
original paintings, prints and giclees in oil, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media; we also have stained glass,
sea glass, and local artist jewelry and fiber art. In addition to gallery owner Eve Turek’s photography, we
represent several other local resident photographers. Local artist E. M. Corsa's whimsical critters and colorful
beach prints delight all ages; her originals reveal a sophisticated sense of humor and are often created with an
antique map image acquired from Yellowhouse as the background. Speaking of maps, we have a room in the modern
collection that features Outer Banks maps and novelties. For more details on individual artists and their work,
please see our artist list.
Owner Pete Turek creates custom mats and frames in the Annex-Frame Shop at the rear of the gallery parking lot. See
the separate section on Framing for more details about our custom framing services.

The gallery's interior includes a remodeling which features even more original paintings,
photographs and art prints by local artists.

Gallery owner Eve Turek offers her nature photography with an emphasis on
Outer Banks landscapes, seascapes, and birds and critters.
|

E.M. Corsa is a well-loved local artist whose whimsical and
sophisticated humorous creations bring a smile to all ages.

Ken Scott creates stained glass window panes, votives, and angels from Outer Banks seaglass. Sue Fagan designs three
dimensional stained glass whirls, as well as incorporating 3-D elements in her lighthouse ovals. Casey Rowe, Hooked
On Glass, uses old window sashes to support her bright, contemporary glass windows.

Yellowhouse Gallery Interior ~ Antique Prints, Antique Maps, and Civil War
|
Yellowhouse Gallery also includes two rooms devoted to antique prints. Our general antique print room features wood
and steel engravings by Winslow Homer and Thomas Nast, fashion from the 1800s, and a section devoted to ships and
the sea—even antique pirate prints! We have an entire wall devoted to antique scenic views from around the country.
Our natural history collection includes botanicals, shells, sea life, butterflies, birds, and animals. Botanicals
include an extensive collection of William Curtis copperplate engravings dating from the late 1700s; Lowe ferns from
the mid-1800s; and chromolithographic plates of flowers from the late 1800s. Our bird prints range from first
edition Royal Octavo Audubons (1840-44) to original engravings by Gould and Morris (we also feature Morris'
butterfly engravings.) Our animal prints include a large collection of 1700s French engravings from Conte de
Buffon's Natural History. All of our antique prints are labeled as such and are guaranteed to be at least 100 years
old; source sheets are provided when available.
Our Civil War and Antique Map room showcases wood engravings of battles, maps from the official Civil War atlas,
portraits of leaders and generals, and scenics from the period. Our antique map collection includes mid-1800s maps
elaborately engraved by S. Augustus Mitchell and the Scottish cartographer Johnston as well as late 1800s maps by
Watson and Cram. We also carry some reproductions of antique maps of the Outer Banks as well as genuine antique
nautical charts of our coast dating from the mid-1800s.
